Boat in the
Harbor
We will have a project
to refurbish a boat to serve as a sign for the Harbor. While our
members will be cleaning, painting and fixing up the boat we will be
having a party following or during the work in April. All members
should plan on helping on this worthy project.
Mammal Center
Exercise Pool
During May we plan to install an exercise pool at the Marine Mammal
Center so that Lanni mammals learn to swim. A party should be in
order for this project as well. Feel free to bring your family to
join in the fun.
International
Project
Kirk Brown, District
Governor elect has brought us a project from the festival of
Brotherhood in Mexico. We will learn more about this project next
week.
Rotary
Dictionaries for Kids

2008-2009 Fund Raising Project
Members in our club will be selling tickets for this Zap Electric
ATV and a BroilMate 4 Burner Gas BBQ so we
can purchase new dictionaries to give to every third grade student in Del
Norte County. Our committee members will hand-deliver them to every
school in our school district. The drawing will be October 11, 2008
at the Sea Cruise Car Show. Our goal is a simple one: we wanted
to encourage children to be curious about learning and to help them
incorporate reading into their lives. For some children, receiving
the dictionary meant receiving the first book they have ever owned.

Project

It
started Friday 10/17/03 at 8:00 am and ended Saturday 10/18/03 by
noon. The Del Norte County Historical Museum has a new lawn sprinkler system
installed. We had 3 days set aside for this but it only took 1 1/2
days. Yes, we as Rotarians got down and dirty as we busted our buns
by putting this beautiful system in that will keep the lawn green
throughout the year. Rotarians Nick Gargaetas, Darryl Norenberg,
Kees Oostra, Russ Kinikin, Karen Kiniken, Gary Gillespie, Nan Udell,
Michelle Arvonen, Kirk
Brown, (PREZ) Edwin Jenesky, and Gene Schach all pitched in to make
this project a success. Weather was great and I must say we are good
at what we do! After we finished we jammed down to Perlita’s
Mexican Restaurant for a great meal that made us all holding our
bellies. Great finish to a job well done. A special thanks goes to
Kees Oostra for the design and time spent getting this project
going. Thanks, so much to Crescent ACE Hardware for donating all the
materials at cost and the donation of the trencher machine that
helped so much digging trenches needed to lay all the pipe. Thank
you Russ Kinikin for coordinating the donation for us. I know all
Rotarians in the club wanted to be there to help but obligations
made it difficult, but a thanks goes to all who had it in their
thoughts.
